- Well, actually I have a self-built MIDI-interface, and if I don't count the
- cable to the serial port and the casing, it consists of the following
- parts and appr. prices)
-
-
- Number Part Price
-
- 2 1/4W resistors ú0.06
- 1 diode (1N4148 or similar) ú0.05
- 1 single opto-coupler ú0.50
- 2 5-pin DIN-connectors ú0.80
-
- TOTAL ú1.41
-
- Well, actually my complete MIDI-interface with cables (to serial and
- to synth) and casing costed around ú5, but if we add a 1/4 square inch
- of PCB to the ú1.41 above, I would guess ú2 is not far away, and this
- is when you buy components to build 1 _one_ MIDI-interface, if AT had
- bought 50 000 they would have been much cheaper, but lets work further
- with the assumed ú2 production cost for a built-in MIDI interface.
-
- As AT has sold 40 000 A1200s since the production started, this would
- mean ú80 000 less for AT... Just my though.
